Christine Park Gallery is pleased to announce its participation in Art Paris Art Fair 2016. For it’s first appearance in a mainland European art fair the gallery will be exhibiting in Art Paris’s Promises sector: a section dedicated to promoting emerging galleries. The gallery will present a two-person exhibition with British painter Dan Hays and Korean sculptor Gunwoo Shin.

Dan Hays is a well-established British artist whose work examines the relationship between the intangible, encoded and instantaneous realm of the digital, and the tactile, imperfect and time-consuming medium of painting. In 1999 the artist discovered the website of another Dan Hays living amidst the Rocky Mountain wilderness of Colorado. This virtual encounter inspired the artist to begin producing a series of works, collectively titled Colorado Impressions, based on heavily compressed images taken from his namesake’s website. In the last couple of years Hays has begun to expand upon this series, gleaning source material from increasingly varied locations, such as ski-resort or traffic surveillance webcams, and digitally archived postcards. By transforming low-resolution, heavily compressed pictures of landscapes into works reminiscent of pointillism Hays highlights and/or reconciles the perceptual incongruities between the physicality of the canvas and the sheer matrix of the digital screen. At Art Paris the gallery will present recent works from this series, which include some of its most varied and challenging works.

Korean artist Gunwoo Shin produces work in a variety of forms and mediums, including three-dimensional painted reliefs, sculpture and paintings. His work combines different cultural influences to present truly diverse artistic imaginations to realistic subject matter. Based on specific incidents and situations in reality his works incorporate tenets of modern life with classical motifs, presenting an expanded alternative to everyday society and demonstrating the artist’s unique perspective. At Art Paris our presentation will focus on the artist’s signature medium - three-dimensional figural sculpture. Shin has produced two new works which will be exhibited for the first time at Art Paris. His work Rustproof was produced in the wake of the Paris terror attacks of November 2015. This work combines the serenity of the Virgin Mary with the strength and resilience of the boxer, intending to pay homage to the Parisian people during this devastating time.
